#7 · PAR 4 · STOKE 7
Way back in the day the 7th hole used to be a Par 5. To be honest, despite now being a Par 4, that extra shot is often required to get it done. Its length, the wind, the slope of the fairway and a tricky green all combine to make this hole a real challenge.
Tee Box
Like the 6th, the decision to take a driver or a 3w off the tee is critical. The heavily cambered fairway can turn a straight drive into a second from the right rough, with a 100 year-old Gum Tree in the way. A conservative 3w can leave you with a 180 meter + approach to a well-guarded green. As always, out of bounds on the left greets a draw, the sluit promises a penalty drop on the right. Choose carefully.
Approach
Your approach to the green will start with the ball well below your feet. Right is big trouble, with long rough and the sluit snaking close to the green, which makes the shallow bunker here a lucky result. Left is not much better, leaving you a sand shot or a chip from tricky rough down onto a green that runs away from you.
Green
Parkview Lore has it that when the greens were redone in the 2000s, the designer was seen lying on his belly, working the surface of with his hands. This might explain the nuances of the surface. Spoiler: not every green runs to the water….
Water Hazard
Perhaps the most formidable and striking feature of Parkview is the waterway that runs the length of the entire course. The sluit runs the entire right side of the hole, so watch out on that side.
