How a handicap is calculated
Your Course Handicap is a number that shows how many shots you get when playing from a specific set of tees at a specific course. It's based on your Handicap Index, which represents your overall golfing ability, adjusted for the difficulty of the course you're playing.

Here's how it works, step-by-step:
1. Handicap Index:
This is the number that reflects your potential ability. You’ll usually find it in your World Handicap app or localy in South Africa HNA app.
2. Course Slope Rating:
Each tee at a golf course has a slope rating — a number that measures how difficult the course plays for a bogey golfer compared to a scratch golfer.
3. Course Handicap Formula:
The formula used is: Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) Example: Index 12.3 × (132 ÷ 113) = 14.4 → Rounded to 14
4. The Result:
This gives you your Course Handicap, which is the number of extra strokes you get when playing that course from those tees.
